Google's turbulent payment products have never been worse than right now, where the sort-of-outgoing product, Google Pay, has been on the market for just over a year. Wallet was originally around from 2011 to 2015, then it became Android Pay, then Google Pay in 2018, and now Wallet is back in 2022. Google Wallet was announced at Google I/O 2022 and brings back the original Google payments product name. Google also launched a ton of support pages today relating to Wallet. Users on Reddit report the app has rolled out to them, and a version has popped up on APKMirror if you want to sideload. Notably, the Google Wallet will also be home to office badges and hotel keys, and this will also require third-party support.Today is apparently the launch day for Google Wallet-Google's fourth rebrand of its payment system. The company says the new app will become home to things like driver's licenses and state IDs, though this will also demand a huge amount of effort from state DMVs (in the US) and other local agencies. There are a lot of security implications that need to be figured out, but it seems that Google is confident that it can do it right. For instance, adding your transit card to Wallet will trigger Google Maps to show your card and balance automatically when you search for directions. Google is also integrating its Wallet app with other services like Google Maps. This means it'll become a place to store all your IDs, credit and debit cards, airline boarding passes, and more. The idea behind the Google Wallet app is pretty straightforward - replace your physical wallet with a digital one that stays inside your phone.
